The NIH Judo Club

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Judo Club was founded in 1979 by Dr. Thomas E. Malone, then Deputy Director of NIH. The club serves the NIH as well as the local community; you do not have to be affiliated with NIH to join. The club is an active member of the Shufu Yudanshakai and registered under the US Judo Federation (USJF). Membership in USJF or one of the other national Judo organizations is required for all participants in our classes.

The NIH Judo Club offers training in Kodokan judo to people of all ages from 13 and older at all skill levels. Our focus is on judo as an Olympic sport for fitness and recreation. We emphasize classical training in falling, throwing, matwork, chokes and armlocks, as well as kata. Our members are encouraged to compete in local and regional tournaments.
